Toptal Interview Experience as a Flutter Developer
This article contains my Toptal interview observation . Because of that visions can be little bit subjective .
First of all I can say that was unpleasant experience . Also make me consider to don’t apply to the this company again.
First Step : Introduction
The recruiter introduce herself with very American accent but not so much fluently .Then she want to talk about yourself.So far everything is great. There is no way to small talk. Because recruiter is too tired already. You can read this her face , clearly . Also she looks like fed up with talk to various strangers . After that; obvious question coming up , suddenly:
- Why did you applied on Toptal ? What was the encouraging thing for you ?
(This interview did teach me that I was unnecessarily honest in interviews. After that day , i decided to change my attitudes to non technical recruiters )
I said that I was looking for a job and I saw 20 page long spam Topta job advertisement on Linkedin. ( Seriously , no way to escape to this advertisement . They are everywhere on Linkedin . Ans if you want to reach other job opportunity , you have to unfilter “ Toptal”. There is no way. ). And I decided to apply .
Second Step : “ Tell me about your project you did “
This is the beginning to most disappointing part . The recruiter say that “ tell me about your project you did”You trying to tell something non technical definition of the projects. That the other non technical but not different questions . Such as ;
- How many projects you did ?
- Which is the most complexity of your projects ?
- What was the challenging thing that push harder to you on you projects ?
Third Step : What is going to happen if you pass the non technical interview ?
If you pass the non technical interview . You will join on technical algorithm test . The amazing thing about this ; there is no test on Dart language You have to take test on Python or the other languages. The test that on Dart , is not ready yet. But you are a Flutter Developer , and the company had promote hundreds “Flutter Developer “ job advertisement . At the and of the day , there is no Dart algorithm test .This is a huge dilemma .
After heard this, I lost my motivation to be company employee . Because , this not make any sense .
Conclusion : “ Six month later … “
I don’t even sure that the recruiter did listen to me truly and completely . But eventually she said that ; “You need to improve your grammar skills . Our customers have higher expectations . So you can check the link I will send to you. There are some resources to help you .I hope you will apply six month later.”
After the interview , I felt like too misunderstood and didn’t listened enough . Even if, I see every interview the opportunity learn something new, this one felt me like; absolute waste of time. I don’t thing to apply again.
